Submit ideas for Envision2030

Back in 2005, Dubuque area residents were asked to contribute ideas for making Dubuque a better place to live by 2010. Spearheaded by the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque and the Dubuque Chamber of Commerce, residents were to submit project ideas that would enhance family life, build stronger ties to the community, and make citizens proud to call Dubuque home. Various projects came to life after several public hearings, the narrowing of ideas, and implementation by city and community leaders. As a result, Dubuque is proud of those projects today! The Millwork District, Crescent Community Health Center, better wireless access, improved library services, and bike-hike trails developed as from Envision 2010 ideas. In fact, Tri-State Trail Vision emerged from the Envision 2010 meetings since better hiking and biking ranked in the top five choices. Still in existence, Tri-State Trail Vision is still advocating for hiking, biking, and water trails! We have a new website and Facebook page for community outreach, maps, recreational opportunities, and news on area projects and places.

The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque and Dubuque Chamber of Commerce has started the ball rolling once again for Envision 2030. Public input is desired to create ten major projects, large or small, that can come from the general public, neighborhood associations, service clubs, community organizations or church groups. An online submission period ends May 31. According to a recent Telegraph Herald article, ideas can be submitted:

·       Filling out a form or sending a video to www.envision2030.org

·       Emailing envision2030@dbqfoundation.org

·       Making a social media post with the hashtag #envision2030

·       Mailing or bringing lists in person to the Community Foundation office (700 Locust Street)  or Dubuque Chamber of Commerce (300 Main Street, Suite 200)

·       Texting ideas to 563-292-0202

After May 31, town hall meetings will allow citizens to vote and narrow the list to 30 ideas. From July to September, a selection committee will narrow the list to 10 priorities. Applications to be on the selection committee will be accepted between March 26 to May 30 and submitted at www.envision2030.org.

Please consider submitting ideas and/or attending meetings to make Dubuque a vibrant place to live, especially for biking, hiking, and water opportunities. Sharing ideas with others can spur our thinking toward even larger goals. The sky is the limit! Well, maybe the trail in this case!
